Why Bother?

... This eventually led to Bomber Command becoming an effective fighting force and the eventual winning of the global conflict.

This was not without appalling destruction and great loss on both sides. 55,000 Bomber Command Aircrew; untold civilian casualties - the scale of human sacrifice is shocking. Many families were touched by tragedy or were in some way involved in the industrialized production of aircraft and associated technology.

Maybe it is the horror of the destruction; the naturally secretive nature of the events and the " British" trait of understatement; or even the way in which history has been recorded and glamorized -  all are possible reasons why this offensive action and the British and Commonwealth role that led to the winning of WWII,  is today shunned. As world events move on there is a danger that these momentous times, and this part of our shared industrial heritage and culture, will be forgotten.

“To forget this history is to risk such events repeating themselves, and a profound injustice to all those that gave so much.”

So what can be done in the 21st Century?
