Bicester Mayor, Richard Mould, visits the Stand

Julian Mitchell's RAF Radar Truck display on the Stand

"WAAF Driver" provides transport for Mayor and Mayoress |
Bicester Mayor and Mayoress Richard and Eileen
Mould were transported - military style - in the Carnival parade in
a WWII Wilys Jeep, before taking a look around the BCH
ROADSHOW Stand, which once again featured Julian Mitchell's
excellent WWII RAF radar truck display.
It was a real scorcher of a day, even though the
wind was starting to threaten the gazebo. At least the World Cup
Final did not put off everybody from venturing outdoors, and the
Stand was well attended.
Another excellent effort by all the members of the
BCH ROADSHOW Team to put the Stand together and man it on the day.
Even a relatively small-scale and simplistic event such as this
requires a lot of effort by all concerned.
As always, a wide variety of people found their way
onto the Stand. It is always fascinating to hear of how just
about everybody has some form of family or personal connection with
the subject. BCH are doing their best to log all of these contacts,
but please be patient if any follow-up contact is required. BCH is
still just staffed by volunteers and need proper funding!
BCH are gradually developing a range of
fund-raising products. Apart from RAF Bicester-crested mugs, BCH now
has BCH-branded pens which made it onto the BCH SHOP on the Stand at
very short notice. Big thanks to Jody Fletcher of local promotional
goods supplier of Banbury,
Chilli
Promotions. Very useful pens they are too. Come to the next
ROADSHOW event to purchase!
Once again the message
about the BCH Campaign for an Education Centre/Museum on the Site of
the former RAF Bicester was conveyed. The BCH coffers grew as well thanks to the
excellent fund-raising efforts on the Stand and sales of BCH
SHOP merchandize.
By Sunday evening it was all over and the ROADSHOW
Team made it back home safely for tea and medals, and a
much-welcome lie down and ice cold drink.
The next BCH ROADSHOW event is scheduled for the
Quainton Railway Museum's 1940s Weekendl on the 14th to 15th August, 2010. See you there!
