Kemble Mossie takes shape
OVERVIEW
A project to re-create a de Havilland Mosquito B.IV
to ground-running
condition.

Front section and cockpit interior are almost finished

THE "Kemble Mossie Project" is the brainchild of David Hall of
Kemble Airfield-based company Devonair, and whose spare time has been devoted to the construction of this amazing achievement over the last 4 years. Although built out of plywood to a high standard, this re-creation of a Mosquito is not airworthy.
The intention is to have something that can be used for film work and to have her taxiing around the aerodrome as a suitable memorial to the original aircraft and crews who did not
return.
With the tragic loss of the UK's last airworthy dH Mosquito (TIII RR299) back in 1996 and the scarcity of the Mosquito worldwide, the
Kemble Mossie Project looks like the best option of seeing a "live" Mosquito in the UK for the foreseeable future.
LATEST
Since the roll-out of the rear fuselage section last
year at the Kemble 2003 PFA Rally and appearance on the BCH
Stand, progress has been significant. David really has overcome the
odds, with bouts of ill-health and the loss of his home and
workshop, unable to dent his enthusiasm and drive to see this
project through.
The forward and rear fuselage sections have been
joined and painted, and the vertical stabilizer and rudder have been
attached. Tail undercarriage has been fitted and a complete set of
main undercarriage wheels and tyres have been obtained (which was a
major success). The bombsight mount has also been made.
Currently David is working on fabricating the
tail-plane, as well as looking at sorting out some additional
cockpit area detailing, including provision for the Verey pistol.
NEEDS
Obviously all-things Mosquito, but currently David
is also trying to source a Verey Pistol and flares(?) for mounting
in the cockpit.
